My First Monotypes
While I’m waiting for a shipment of photo supplies, I decided to try my hand at making monotypes. Huberto and Randy gave me a crash course today so after dinner I went back to the press to give monotypes a try.
I created a few piles of ink using sepia, red, black, white, and gold ink. Small pieces of plexiglass were used as the plates. For the first image, I applied the ink with a brush on the plate. When the plate was ready for printing, it was run through the etching press under moderate pressure. I’m not a painter and I don’t really draw except for line drawings of faces similar to the one shown in the monotype.

The second monotype was processed as the first one was but rather than using a brush to apply the ink, I used leaves. To do this, I pressed the leaves in ink, blotted them on paper, and then pressed them against the plexiglass plate.

Love the leaves. Outside brought inside - nice!
